HKS Intercooler Kit Cooling Series (Nissan GT-R)
INTERCOOLER KIT COOLING Series (NISSAN GT-R)
Description
Get the Turbine's Real Power and Increase Engine Torque!
All HKS Intercoolers improve both the efficiency and power of any turbocharged application by rapidly reducing inherent heat levels of the compressed intake air charge before entering the engine. By utilizing a special tube and fin design, the intercooler acts as a large heat exchanger that dissipates the heat generated by the compression of the intake charge without creating reductions in boost pressure or response.
Cooling Efficiency Improvement = Torque Increase
The cooling efficiency of an intercooler is affected by many factors including the frontal surface area of the core, cooling fin design and air flow through and over the core. HKS has increased the size of the core over stock to increase the air flow over the core.
New type cooling fin now offers improved heat radiation. Core end tanks have been designed to flow the compressed air evenly across the whole intercooler core. All these factors will maximize reduction of intake air temperature which increases air density. Increasing the range of fueling and ignition setting making it possible to deliver more power and torque.
Lower Pressure Loss = Better Response [GT TYPE].
Along with cooling efficiency, pressure loss reduction is one of the most important aspects of intercooler performance. If the pressure drop is significantly high, throttle response and the torque is reduced.
However, reducing the pressure loss and improving the cooling efficiency are contradictory, and the lower the pressure loss, the worse the cooling efficiency becomes. A large cause of pressure drop is the cross sectional area of the tubes in which the air flows and inner fin layout and shape. HKS has emphasized cooling efficiency yet achieved a low resistance design with thin fins.
Tube design has been also considered in many possibilities and increasing the cross sectional area. With these measures in place, high levels of cooling efficiency have been achieved without sacrificing pressure drop.
S TYPE INTERCOOLER
S TYPE is designed for street use; ideal for stock vehicles, lightly tuned vehicles, and for vehicles with stock replacement type turbines. This product has an excellent balance of response in street driving and power in the mid to high RPM range.
* S Type AL is aluminum polished piping type.
(1) Inner Fin
1. Short type
・Short type that the pitch is optimized for fin shape, for small and light to improve the cooling efficiency.
2. Triangular straight type
・Triangular straight type for less pressure loss of air flow.
(2) Outer Fin (triangular louver type)
・Cooling efficiency improved with louver because of the shorter length and angle of the fin.
・Wide surface of louver make it more efficient in cooling.
R TYPE INTERCOOLER
R TYPE is designed for circuit use; ideal to use with a stock replacement type turbine to wastegate type large size turbine. This intercooler derives better turbine performance regardless the engine rpm during driving on a straight track and acceleration after cornering.
The weight is approximately 25% lighter than a conventional product. (In-house comparison).
* R Type AL is aluminum polished piping type.
(1) Inner Fin (triangular straight type)
Triangular straight type for less pressure loss of air flow.
(2) Outer Fin (triangular louver type)
Like S TYPE, Triangular louver type for outer fin.
R-TYPE INTERCOOLER KIT V SYSTEM
Large capacity Intercooler core, which handles up to 500PS, and radiator are V mounted. Specially designed for FD3S RX-7. Because of the design, cooling air is used efficiently. For street, circuit and drift.

Intercooler Kit for NISSAN GT-R R35.
Large capacity core with carbon air guide will greatly improve cooling performance. The carbon air guide has premium looking. Even though the core has larger capacity, weight of the intercooler unit is lighter than stock. Performance level is much higher than other manufactures' products, which are just slightly larger than stock intercooler.
Cooling performance
Although performance of stock intercooler is good, it is just good for stock boost level. At boost 1.2k (GT570 Kit, GT600 Kit), temperature of compressed air will be increased. (Cause: Since stock core size is not enough for the flow capacity of stock turbochargers.) To improve cooling performance, larger core is required. After performance tests, if the core size is just slightly larger, there is not so much performance improvement. To achieve great performance enhancement, the large size (Size: 400x260x65) & thin core was selected.
Lightweight
Intercooler unit is lighter than stock. It reduces weight of overhang.
(Stock : 9.6kg HKS : 8.0kg)
Pressure loss
To prevent pressure loss due to the thin core, the new inner fin design will minimize pressure loss.
Affection to water temperature
Large capacity core tends to affect to air flow for radiator. With the thin core, air flow speed to radiator will be increased. During tests at Sendai Highland Circuit and Fuji Speedway by a professional racing driver, increasing of water temperature was the same level as stock system.
Special large carbon air guide
The shape of the air guide fits to the core size. Induction air flow goes through efficiently to the core that enhances cooling performance. The side air guide plate guides air to radiator as well.
(The carbon pattern is mat twill weave cloth.)

An air ductless addition to the intercooler kit for Nissan GT-R R35 spec.
This product is for those of who want a reasonable price tune-up.
Cooling performance
The performance of intercooler of stock is fine for normal stage, but for the tuned car of 1.2k boost-up (GT570, GT600 kit) can reach high temperature rapidly because of near flow capacity limitation of turbocharger which is that the stock core size is small capacity. To improve the cooling performance, more core capacity is required but a little bigger intercooler than the stock could not provide enough cooling performance. Therefore we have employed size of 400x260x65 and thinner core type for much better cooling performance.
Trimming weight
HKS Intercooler is lighter than the stock Intercooler that gives over-hang weight trimming effect.
(Stock: 9.6kg, HKS: 8.0kg)
Pressure loss
For losing pressure by the thinner core design we have revised inner fin to keep down the increasing pressure loss.
Influence to the water temperature
For the large capacity core, the air to radiator cause problem of rising temperature. We have solved this problem by making the core thinner which increases the speed of air passing through the radiator. We have tested at racing track with racer driver and confirmed the water temperature.
Installation time: about 8~10 hours

The intercooler is very important for forced induction tuning and HKS has developed new big type for GT1000 full turbine kit.
Feature
We have designed the intercooler for best balance of left-right bank cooling and pipe layout for the same as vertical flow stock design. The core front surface is maximum size as stock type layout. And the thickness of core is 100mm (stock=65mm) which provides less air flow pressure loss for the 1000ps.
We have designed the intercooler layout design to be installed with the stock air guide (need some work). The air came in from the open bumper is all flowed into the core for the maximum cooling efficiency.
Components
Intercooler core assy (2)
Intercooler inlet pipe
Silicon hose
Precaution for installation
Need separate Intercooler Piping Kit (13002-AN003) for installation.
Need to do the radiator air guide and intercooler air guide modification.
Use hand nutter for installation work.
Installation time will be about 1 to 2 days.

About
In October 1973, two talented and spirited young engineers had a vision; to design and build high performance engines and components that major OE manufacturers could not or would not produce.
Led by Hiroyuki Hasegawa, a former engineer for Yamaha Motor Company, and his partner Mr.Kitagawa, the two secured a capital infusion from Sigma Automotive Co., Ltd. (hence the name “HKS ”), and began tuning gasoline powered engines in a dairy-farming shed at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan.
A year later, Mr. Hasegawa designed and built the first aftermarket turbocharger for passenger cars and has never looked back.
