Description

Get the Turbine's Real Power and Increase Engine Torque!

All HKS Intercoolers improve both the efficiency and power of any turbocharged application by rapidly reducing inherent heat levels of the compressed intake air charge before entering the engine. By utilizing a special tube and fin design, the intercooler acts as a large heat exchanger that dissipates the heat generated by the compression of the intake charge without creating reductions in boost pressure or response.

Cooling Efficiency Improvement = Torque Increase

The cooling efficiency of an intercooler is affected by many factors including the frontal surface area of the core, cooling fin design and air flow through and over the core. HKS has increased the size of the core over stock to increase the air flow over the core.

New type cooling fin now offers improved heat radiation. Core end tanks have been designed to flow the compressed air evenly across the whole intercooler core. All these factors will maximize reduction of intake air temperature which increases air density. Increasing the range of fueling and ignition setting making it possible to deliver more power and torque.

Lower Pressure Loss = Better Response [GT TYPE].

Along with cooling efficiency, pressure loss reduction is one of the most important aspects of intercooler performance. If the pressure drop is significantly high, throttle response and the torque is reduced.

However, reducing the pressure loss and improving the cooling efficiency are contradictory, and the lower the pressure loss, the worse the cooling efficiency becomes. A large cause of pressure drop is the cross sectional area of the tubes in which the air flows and inner fin layout and shape. HKS has emphasized cooling efficiency yet achieved a low resistance design with thin fins.

Tube design has been also considered in many possibilities and increasing the cross sectional area. With these measures in place, high levels of cooling efficiency have been achieved without sacrificing pressure drop.

 S TYPE INTERCOOLER

S TYPE is designed for street use; ideal for stock vehicles, lightly tuned vehicles, and for vehicles with stock replacement type turbines. This product has an excellent balance of response in street driving and power in the mid to high RPM range.

* S Type AL is aluminum polished piping type.

(1) Inner Fin

1. Short type
・Short type that the pitch is optimized for fin shape, for small and light to improve the cooling efficiency.

2. Triangular straight type
・Triangular straight type for less pressure loss of air flow.

(2) Outer Fin (triangular louver type)

・Cooling efficiency improved with louver because of the shorter length and angle of the fin.
・Wide surface of louver make it more efficient in cooling.

R TYPE INTERCOOLER

R TYPE is designed for circuit use; ideal to use with a stock replacement type turbine to wastegate type large size turbine. This intercooler derives better turbine performance regardless the engine rpm during driving on a straight track and acceleration after cornering.
The weight is approximately 25% lighter than a conventional product. (In-house comparison).

* R Type AL is aluminum polished piping type.

Like S TYPE, Triangular louver type for outer fin.

R-TYPE INTERCOOLER KIT V SYSTEM

Large capacity Intercooler core, which handles up to 500PS, and radiator are V mounted. Specially designed for FD3S RX-7. Because of the design, cooling air is used efficiently. For street, circuit and drift.

Features
Front mount intercooler kit with S-type core. (Core size : 600 x 244 x 65)
New S-type core was developed only for GDB kit in order to improve response. Because front mount layout usually has a demerit of slow response.
Pipe layout is designed as straight and short as possible. It enabled as quick boost response as stock intercooler.
When a vehicle is stopped, stock top mount intercooler core keeps heat inside from the engine compartment and then, when the car starts, sometimes knocking occurs.
Front mount intercooler decreases intake air temperature and it enables safe and reliable tuning.


Remarks
ECU setting is required. (F-CON etc.)
Racing Suction Reloaded (70020-AF103), which is sold separately, is required.
Front Bumper and reinforcement needs to be modified.
It is not possible to install stock Fog Lamp and recirculation valve. (Installation of HKS Super SQV is recommended.)
It is possible to use with HKS Oil Cooler Kit (for applied model E 15004-AF006, for applied model F 15004-AF007). Modification of air guide is required.
It does not fit to STI SPEC C (with Transmission Cooler, Engine Oil Cooler).

Features
We used R type core for larger size + low pressure loss for better performance than stock intercooler.
The side tank has effective usage of air flow of core bumper open from the intercooler entrance to exit.
We made it very short piping layout and large radius of bending to reduce the bad response caused by front mount layout. So it will have about same as the stock intercooler boost pressure spooling.
Stock intercooler in the engine compartment, the core tends to accumulate the heat from engine and cause knocking for the starting.By putting the intercooler in front help prevent the knocking and make it unbreakable tuning.
Core size (600×255.6×103), Stock (170×525×65)
You can improve performance with normal ECU but using HKS F-CON iS/V Pro for setting let you have more and better performance.

Cautions for Installation
You need modify the bumper and size of battery to B19L size for installation.
Can't use with the stock recirculation valve. SQV is installable. (The flange is welded into SQV pipe)
Need separate Racing Suction Reloaded.
You don’t need ECU setting for exhaust system tuning, but if you do the performance will get better. With already boost-up vehicles, we recommend the setting with F-CON iS or V Pro for better performance.
Approximate installation time is 5 to 6 hours

About

In October 1973, two talented and spirited young engineers had a vision; to design and build high performance engines and components that major OE manufacturers could not or would not produce.
Led by Hiroyuki Hasegawa, a former engineer for Yamaha Motor Company, and his partner Mr.Kitagawa, the two secured a capital infusion from Sigma Automotive Co., Ltd. (hence the name “HKS ”), and began tuning gasoline powered engines in a dairy-farming shed at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan.
A year later, Mr. Hasegawa designed and built the first aftermarket turbocharger for passenger cars and has never looked back.
