Catch Can Kits, Nissan R35 GT-R

ABOUT RADIUM ENGINEERING CATCH CANS
Radium Engineering catch cans feature large 10AN ORB ports, a 4AN ORB drain port, 2-step oil separation baffling, and an O-ring sealed dipstick. These kits mount using factory holes and integrate perfectly with the surrounding components. They do NOT vent to atmosphere (VTA), thus are emissions and track legal. Closed loop systems remove the oil and sludge from the PCV gasses before it is routed to the engine to be burned. A closed loop system also promotes negative crankcase pressure for optimal performance. Furthermore, closed systems prevent unwanted oil vapors from entering the cabin. The dipsticks built into the catch cans allow easy inspection of accumulated fluid. No cutting, drilling or permanent modifications are required.

Note: This video shows the green banjo bolt style fittings which have been discontinued and replaced with swiveling stainless steel versions.

OVERVIEW
Radium Engineering offers two different catch can kits for the R35:
*The 20-0565 PCV line kit mounts near the brake master cylinder in the back of the engine bay and interfaces with the hose that goes from the PCV valve on the engine to the intake manifold (vacuum).
*The 20-0555 crankcase vent kit mounts on the front of the engine and interfaces with the breather lines coming off of the heads and going to the turbo intake piping. This kit contains two catch cans (one for each head breather).
These two kits can be purchased separately or together.
When deciding which kit (or kits) to purchase, it is important to remember that both kits working together offer the most protection from oil ingestion into the engine. The PCV side kit is effective at keeping oil out of the intake manifold when the PCV valve is open, such as during light cruising, idle, etc. When in boost, the PCV valve closes and all the engine blow-by comes out of the head breathers. This is a good reason to have catch cans on the crankcase breathers.

20-0565 CATCH CAN KIT, PCV, NISSAN R35 GT-R
The PCV catch can kit runs inline between the PCV valve and the intake manifold. It mounts in the LH side engine compartment.

When the intake manifold pressure is close to or greater than atmospheric pressure, the PCV "check" valve closes and, thus, this hose experiences no flow. Conversely, the PCV hoses will experience "metered" vacuum when the engine is idling, steady state cruising, and decelerating. This would normally draw unwanted crankcase vapor, unspent fuel, and oil sludge into the intake manifold immediately after a high load run. This catch can will intercept the oil and other blow-by liquids and prevent them from entering the intake manifold. The catch can must be emptied periodically.

NOTES:
1. The PCV catch can kit is compatible and recommended to be used with the dual CCV catch can kit. See 20-0566 below.
2. No inline check valve is required since Radium catch cans are pressure sealed. This means a direct intake manifold connection is permitted.
3. For RHD vehicles, some modifications may be required for catch can mounting.

20-0555 DUAL CATCH CAN KIT, CCV, NISSAN R35 GT-R
To retain factory functionality, the two CCV catch cans run inline between each crankcase vent (CCV) port and the corresponding turbo inlets.

At low loads, these catch cans experience atmospheric pressure. However, when the engine is at high load (WOT), these vents will experience high flow out of the crankcase. This would normally lead to oil and sludge accumulation in the air filter intake pipe. Oil accumulation will occur in the intercooler which lowers the thermal efficiency properties of the heat exchanger and leads to decreased performance.

NOTES:
1. The dual CCV catch can kit does NOT address blow-by from the PCV valve side of the crankcase.
2. The dual CCV catch can kit is compatible and recommended to be used with the PCV catch can kit. See 20-0566 below.

20-0566 TRIPLE CATCH CAN KIT, NISSAN R35 GT-R

For the ultimate in engine protection, Radium recommends 20-0566 Triple Catch Can Kit, Nissan R35 GT-R.

This kit utilizes both the dual "CCV" and single "PCV" catch can kits detailed above.

NOTE: For RHD vehicles, some modifications may be required for PCV catch can mounting.

Each kit features the following:
-Anodized oil catch can(s) with integrated condenser and dipstick(s)
-Anodized aluminum R35 GT-R specific mounting brackets
-Anodized aluminum -AN adapter fittings and hose ends
-Stainless steel mounting hardware
-Radium Engineering PCV hose

OPTIONAL

20-0024 PETCOCK DRAIN KIT
-4AN ORB to barb fitting
-Nylon 1/4" barb ball valve
-PCV Compliant Rubber Hose

This kit can be used to remotely drain the catch cans without the need to unscrew the canister body.
